How to Properly Store Furniture

Harriet Butler

Clean

Prior to choosing to store your soft furnishings, it is crucial that you make sure they are clean. This is because any dirt or grime that is left on your soft furnishings could harbour bacteria and cause the furniture to get stained. You can prevent the fabric from deteriorating and keep it in good condition by regularly washing your soft furnishings. Before you begin cleaning, make sure to check the labels on your belongings to make sure they don't need to be dry-cleaned.

Dismantle

Take apart every piece of furniture you can before moving it from each room, including desks, bookcases, closets, and more. By taking this extra step, packing up the moving vehicle and self-storage unit will be much simpler. Additionally, it will lessen the chance of damaging or scratching anything.

In a labelled food bag, place all hardware like nuts, bolts, nails, screws, allen keys, and other small items. Tape the bag to the piece of furniture to which it belongs to help keep it together.

Wrapping

Make sure everything is well-wrapped and protected; place picture frames in strong boxes, mattresses and sofas in coverings, and picture frames in bubble wrap.

Avoid placing furniture in an unsecured self-storage space. To cover the components and shield them from dust, the elements, movement, and storage, use plastic wrap or dust sheets. Dust blankets are a superior form of protection for wooden furniture and antique furniture since they let the items breathe.
